Virginia Tech Students Present in Oklahoma
                                                
Two dietetic students, Erin Griffin & Ashley Holmes, were invited to present at the 2009 North America Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture (NACTA) Science and Education Resource Development (SERD) Conference at Oklahoma State University. The conference theme was “Making Assessment Work for You”.  Their presentation, “Students Collaborate with Faculty to Design an Electronic Portfolio System to Measure Student Learning Outcomes and Professional Development”, was positively received by conference attendees.  Faculty from other universities were impressed with Ashley and Erin’s professionalism, visuals, content, and ability to communicate their accomplishments.


University of Virginia Gottlieb Scholarship Winners
              
Kim Buss and Tiffany Adriens celebrate being awarded the 2008-2009 Regina Gottlieb Scholarship with Ana Abad-Jorge, Internship Director, and Sarah Templeton, Scholarships Chair of the UVA Hospital Auxiliary.  Kim is a graduate of the U. of Pittsburgh where she was active in her Student Dietetics Association, Habitat for Humanity and a community wellness program for at-risk middle school students.  At UVA, Kim participated in many activities promoting wellness and nutrition, including the "Hoos Healthy" program for school-age children, a diabetes self-management group for low-income rural residents and a nutrition presentation for senior citizens.  Kim compiled a very comprehensive and professional weight loss education tool for the Nutrition Counseling Center.  She will return to  the Pittsburgh area to take a job in long term care.

Tiffany is a graduate of the U. of Wisconsin - Stevens Point, where she was active as the treasurer and fundraising coordinator of the Student Association of Nutrition and Dietetics.  Her commitment to community service and excellence continued in her supervised practice experience at UVA Health System. Tiffany's great creativitry, enthusiasm and wonderful sense of humor were enjoyed by all. Her ability to manage various projects led to successful endeavors, such as her theme meal for her Advanced Management rotation: "Breasfast at Tiffany's".  Tiffany excelled in all her rotations, and found her passion in outpatient and community nutrition.  She will return to the  midwest to seek a position in community nutrition.
